TO COMMEMORATE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS DAY, SMAN 1 YOGYAKARTA HOLDS EDUCATION WITH FIREFIGHTER DEPARTMENT OF YOGYAKARTA CITY

SMAN 1 Yogyakarta and DAMKAR Yogyakarta City hosted a Fire Disaster Preparedness Training Socialisation for commemorating Disaster Preparedness Day. The agenda was carried out in the volleyball court this morning along with  students of classes X and XI.

Previously, homeroom teachers instructed their students on what to do in the event of a fire or other emergency. Next, the the students assembled on the volleyball court to receive instruction from firefighter of Yogyakarta City on how to handle fire emergencies.

"There are four types of fire: types A, B, C, and D. Mr. Siswanto, aided by Mr. Asbikun, said that Class A is triggered by combustible things, such as dry leaves, paper, and wood; Class B is caused by flammable liquid objects; Class C is triggered by electrical malfunctions; and Class D is triggered by metal.

The trainees were taught and practiced dealing with fires by analyzing real-life scenarios. For example, a fire broke out in the kitchen due to a leaking gas cylinder.

"Wow, I think you should prepare wet rags in the kitchen," stated Mrs. Lintang, a volunteer instructor for this event.

The student volunteers took turns attempting to extinguish the fire using various means, including manually plugging the gas hole with their hands, removing the regulator, smothering the flames with a damp cloth using APAR.

There are several varieties of APAR that are used depending on the needs. It stands for Light Fire Extinguisher; why is it light? Mr Siswanto explained that it is easy to carry anywhere.

This event went successfully. The students and teachers seemed passionate about the need to be prepared for fire disasters. (Robbani)
