SMAN 1 TELADAN LAUNCHES A BOOK "FLOWING PEARLS"
Yogyakarta, Monday, November 6, 2023, SMAN 1 Teladan Yogyakarta held the book launch for Pearls of Light: An Anthology of Student Essays. With Drs. Sudaryanto, M.Pd., PBSI UAD lecturer, as the resource person. This introductory activity was packaged as a Literacy Workshop with the topic Essay as a Media for Students' Critical Thinking in Realizing Freedom of Learning. Drs. Jumadi, M. Si., Head of SMAN 1 Yogyakarta, clarified that the essays in the book “Mutiara Berpendar” were written by outstanding pupils who have won prizes in a variety of competitions.
Eleven of the eighteen pieces in the book have won awards in both regional and national contests. It is anticipated, he continues, that the publishing of the book of essays will broaden students' views on reading and inspire them to practice expressing their varied opinions through essays.
During his lecture, Maryono, S.Pd., M.Pd., the head of the Yogyakarta City Education and Education Center, mentioned study findings about Indonesian students' low literacy rates when compared to wealthy nations like Singapore, Japan, or the US. This is partially due to the uneven distribution of high-quality education in Indonesia. Maryono hopes that publishing student essays will serve as a catalyst for an increase in the standard of literacy. Students get the chance to talk about current events from the viewpoint of other students, including the problem of bullying and the risks associated with drugs. Stakeholders can then modify their approach to problem-solving to better meet the needs and expectations of the kids.
Dr. Sudaryanto, M.Pd. addressed the essays and problems of Generation Z (Gen-Z) in his talk. Students at Teladan have good literacy habits, as seen by the book Pearls of Light. The book's essay topics demonstrate the presence of multidisciplinary knowledge and multi benefits.
Indeed, essays can serve as a platform for students to investigate and articulate a variety of academic concepts in a concrete way. This illuminated Pearl Book finishes a row of student-written books that are kept in the SMAN 1 Yogyakarta Library's unique Teladan Corner container.
